It's Monday 5/9! What Are You Reading?

Hosted by information book

First of all, Happy Mother's Day to all mothers and grandmothers! I went yesterday so I didn't see my son, but I'm waiting for the next party tonight with my husband and son. I spent the day with my mother, so it went well. In fact, we spent the whole weekend together.

And what a weekend! He and I were in Vermont for Booktopia 2022 , an annual weekly event for writers and readers at the excellent Northshire Library in Manchester (VT).

Northshire Library Manchester, VT

I'll write a full review here on a blog with lots of photos - and videos - but in short, it was a weekend full of author discussions, great food, book discussions, and insights. Author, Trivia about books, Yankee book exchanges and, above all, socialization with book-loving friends, old and new. Many of us come back every year (this was my mother and I for the fifth time!), And after a two-year break from the epidemic, it was special to get together for our annual event. This is a paradise for book lovers and interested readers!

Our book Trivia Team! Author Jane Peck is on the left.

The eight best authors of the year have been selected (appropriately) by the booksellers of the North. I have some work to review, but I've reviewed three of my favorite books:

Dahlia Azimen Country of origin, family, immigration, adulthood, etc.

Ben Shatock's Six Waxes: The Remains of Henry David Thoreau , which combines the writer's experience, Thoreau's experience, and nature's great writing.

The Brendan Slocomb is a fascinating mystery that extends to the violin conspiracy, a favorite of Buktopier fans, family dramas, historical fiction and music.

Check out my other comments (because all books are great!) And my Booktopia reviews and videos.

Speaking of videos, I posted a new video on my YouTube channel last week, but it was fun! Let's get outside tag "booktube" is a fun meme for nature and books related to nature, with some interesting questions. You can see it at the link.

And here's what we read last week: My reading focuses primarily on booktopia:

When I was in Vermont, I finally read Jane Peck's " Certifier " ... after dinner with the author! She is very smart and bright in her weird books. This novel is an interesting main character of a crime / thriller genre and has a great sense of humor. Claudia was like a scapegoat for her Sino-American "model minority" family, so she didn't even mention her new job. Work for a company that can hire people to search for their "match" from one of the dating apps. A woman approaches them and Claudia investigates two men for her, but then her client dies suddenly. Although Claudia likes crime novels, her boss tells her to leave, but she begins to study the mysterious death. From there, there are many interesting twists in the story as Claudia tries to figure out what happened. The protagonist is great and the writer has a great way with words. I smiled a lot, but I also turned the page in tension!

Next, I start with another selection from the bookstop, a memoir by Courtney Maumen called The Year of the Horse. I didn’t go to the writer’s session, but he gave a humorous speech for the publication of the novel on Saturday night. However, this book is not funny. This is a personal battle with the big depression. She was married to a two-year-old child when her insomnia and other symptoms eventually got so bad that she needed help. Earlier, he realized that he had struggled since childhood. He returns to his childhood hobbies, horseback riding and horseback riding to help him recover. I only have 20% access, but so far so good, honest and moving.

I needed an interesting audiobook for the long haul trip this weekend and my favorite podcast, Book Cougars , gave me the inspiration I needed (however, I'm a bookstore, so I'll see them this weekend. Broadcast in episodes) Next!). In Episode 154 , they talked to author Jess Montgomery, who reminded me that I liked the first book in the Kinship series, Widos , so I chose the second book, The Holocaust , for my journey. . Travel audio. This series of historical mysteries is based on the 1920 first female Ohio Sheriff. In this fictional version, Lily takes office when her husband, the current sheriff, is assassinated (Book 1). Now that Lily is on her way for a charge when an elderly woman is found dead on a nearby train track, it's clear she's stuck in a freight train over the tunnel. When Lily began her investigation, she began to suspect that it was not an accident. The story unfolds in mystery, the sheriff's race, Lily's best friends have to make tough decisions and even the CCC begins to enter their case. It's a really compelling story that helped me fly miles, and it was a great help last night when I got tired of terrible back pain while trying to get home!

My husband, Ken, is reading a new book I put in his Easter basket , Lauren Buccaneer's Afterland . I chose this because we both likeShining Girls from the same author and are so excited about the new TV adaptation that started on Apple TV last week, ... with Elizabeth Moss! We can't wait to see. Meanwhile, this new Buke novel is a post-apocalyptic story about a world where most people have died. Miles is one of the few surviving 12-year-old boys, and his mother will protect him at any cost from many women who want a part of him: as a rare reproductive asset, as a sexual object, or as a surrogate child. It has been described as a high-action thriller that Stephen King says is "cleverly written" so it's definitely great!

Our 27-year-old son has finished reading Book 6, Faith in the Fallen, his favorite series, Terry Goodkind's Sword of Truth . After reading the series three times in a row, he is now reading something new, a book in the Emanesca series, written by Ben Galli. Fantasy, of course, is his favorite genre. (You'll find lots of great books available in Northshire this weekend for his birthday!) Game of Thrones meets Dehard and appears in "Exploding Epic Fantasy". Sounds good!

No new blog posts last week! He is very busy reading books and talking.
